Parent Advocacy

Parent Advocacy Group

The ADHD Advocacy Group meets once a month to address important issues regarding ADHD. Parents, care providers and professionals join together to engage in activities and explore what we can do in our community. We come together to learn new approaches, inform ourselves and others about what matters most to us and brainstorm ways to advocate for children and families. We also benefit from guest speakers, including researchers, doctors, counselors and teachers who have a wealth of knowledge and experience working with children with ADHD. Our goals for the year are to:

  1. learn about cutting edge treatments;
  2. coordinate advocacy efforts with schools, medical and mental health services;
  3. provide support to families in need;
  4. plan and coordinate positive and entertaining family events and outings.

You are invited to join us and share your ideas, concerns and needs. Hosted by the Alvin V. Baird Attention & Learning Disabilities Center, the meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:00 pm in Blue Ridge Hall, University Blvd. (across from Costco and beside Tuesday Morning), Harrisonburg, VA.
