PHOTO: SwimmingJumpstart is a summer day camp designed to help rising 4th through 9th grade students with ADHD build social and academic success. Our counselors work closely with each camper to develop a “toolbox” of skills for the new school year. Many daily activities focus on developing organizational skills and study skills to improve academic achievement. Each camper receives a binder with school supplies to practice maintaining an organizational system during the program. We teach efficient and effective study skills which include instruction on strategic project planning study skills and note taking techniques.

Using moderated discussions and interactive games students learn to use new strategies for managing peer conflict and initiating friendships. Our Art Works program also provides opportunities for campers to build confidence and communication skills. Campers cultivate good sportsmanship and basic athletic ability by playing team sports during pool and field activities while reinforcing interpersonal skills. Through activities designed to foster cooperation creativity and communication students leave the program with new friends, fun memories and essential skills for succeeding in middle school.

The camp day begins at 8:30 and ends at 4:30 . We ask that campers bring a bag lunch, while the program provides snacks and drinks. Registration for the summer of 2007 will be open soon for students beginning 4-9 grades. For more information, please call Kathryn Van Eck or Carrie Light at ( 540) 568-6484.
