Q: Do you offer CEU’s (Continuing Education Hours)?
A:  Health Professionals who attend Raising the Bar 2008 are eligible to receive .6 CEU’s (6.0 Contact Hours).  All CEU’s are processed through the James Madison University College of Graduate and Outreach Programs for a cost of $10.00 per person.  To receive CEU’s, you must complete the registration form and include the $10.00 fee with your registration.  At the conclusion of the conference, participants will have an opportunity to pick up their certificate.  Visit http://www.jmu.edu/continuingeducation for more information concerning CEU’s.

Q: Do teachers have an opportunity to earn a Certificates of Attendance?
A:  Raising the Bar 2008 offers educators a Certificate of Attendance.  You must complete the registration form and include that you are interested in receiving the certificate.  At the conclusion of the conference, participants will have an opportunity to pick up their certificate. A Certificate of Attendance is included in the cost of registration.

Q: Will I need a receipt or ticket to enter the conference?
A:  No, attendees will not need a receipt for the conference entrance.  Registration receipts and invoices may be mailed to the attendee upon request.  Attendees who mail or fax their registrations are welcome to call and confirm their registration, 540-568-6484.  All attendees are required to check in at the registration table prior to the conference.  ALDC staff will have a complete list of those who registered which will be organized according to last names.

Q: Can arrangements be made for guests with special needs?
A:  Yes, the ALDC would be happy to accommodate guests with special needs.  Please call us by March 14 to make arrangements, 540-568-6484.

Q:  What is your cancellation policy?
A:  Registration may be refunded less a $10.00 cancelation fee until Friday, March 14, 2008.  To process cancellation, please provide your contact information and cancellation request in writing to, JMU-ALDC, MSC 9013, ATTN: Carrie Light, Harrisonburg, VA 22807.  No calls accepted.

Q:  How do I get to JMU and where should I park when I get there?
A:  Parking will be in the Convocation Lot A and guests will take a shuttle to the conference in the Festival Ballroom.  Directions to James Madison University are at the link above labeled “Directions”.  A map of JMU’s campus is available at www.jmu.edu/map

Q:  What is the shuttle schedule?
A:  Shuttles will start running at 7:45 as guests start to arrive at the Convocation Center.  The last shuttle to take you to the conference will leave around 8:45 to get you to the conference on time.  After the conference ends, shuttles will be available at 4:15 to bring you back to the Convocation lot to your car. 

Q:  Do I need to make special arrangements to travel during times when the shuttles are not offered?
A:  Yes, you must call Carrie Light by March 7th at 540-568-6484 to request special arrangements.  We will try to accommodate our guests.

Q:  How long will registration be open?
A:  Space in the conference is limited.  The website will indicate on the Home page if the registration is full.  We recommend registering early to guarantee a spot at Raising the Bar.  The last day to register will be March 14th or until registration is full.

Q:  How do I contribute to the poster session?
A:  We invite you to contribute your knowledge and experience to Raising the Bar by submitting a poster reflecting clinical services or research regarding children, adolescents, or adults with ADHD. Registration costs of the first author of the accepted posters will be waived. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top poster presented at the conference.  To submit a poster, please provide a brief summary (about 120 words) of the work to be presented, a cover page with the title of the work, names and contact information for all the authors.  Mail Proposal to: Kacey Sax, MSC 9013, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA 22807.  Email to: Saxkl@jmu.edu

Q:  What is tracking?
A:  Tracking is a tool used to guide participants to the workshops that will be of the greatest interest and use to them. Raising the Bar will feature 3 tracks for workshop participants: Family, Education, and Health.  Each track is designed to provide comprehensive information on a variety of topics that address the needs of a specific audience.  Click on the link above to find out more information on each of the tracks.

Q:  What workshops are offered?
A:  For the Family track, workshops include: Raising Children with ADHD, Raising Teens with ADHD, Social Skills Intervention, Medication Treatment for children with ADHD, College Transitions, and an opportunity for a small group discussion.  For the Education Track, workshops include: Strategies for Elementary School Classrooms, Social Skills Intervention, Strategies for Secondary School Classrooms, Helping Students become active learners, College Transitions and an opportunity for a small group discussion.  For the Health Track, the workshops include:  Social Skills Intervention, Medication Treatment for children with ADHD, and College Transitions.  More information can be found by clicking on the “Workshop Information” link above.

Q:  What are small group discussions?
A:  Experts Dr. Steven Evans and Dr. Zewelanji Serpell will be available for personal questions from the audience.  Sessions limited to 15 people; attendees MUST CALL 540-568-6484 to sign up.  Space is limited to it is recommended to call ASAP.  If space is filled, we will have a waiting list in case attendees drop out.
